I am incredibly blessed to work with amazing couples.  After meeting with Haylee and Max for their consultation and tasting, I came home and told my husband that they were the kind of people that we would totally be friends with.  Our conversation just flowed naturally as they shared the story of how they first met and all of the prep work that they were putting into their wedding day.

  1. The ceremony and reception were held on Max’s parent’s property and they were literally DIYing pretty much everything (except for the cake 😉).  They cleared a few larger trees to make space for the ceremony and Max even cut a slice of one of the trees to use as a cake stand.  Haylee blew my mind with everything that she was making–centerpieces, bouquets, and a GIANT floral wreath that they would hang from the top of the reception tent.  She was a busy girl!

Fast forward a few months to their wedding day.  I arrived to deliver and set up the cake and I was in awe of what I saw.  The floral arrangements were amazing! The pictures that Haylee sent to me did not do them justice–they had to be seen in person.

And that hanging wreath! Ahh! I just kept looking up at it as I set up and decorated the cake and admired all of the time that I knew Haylee had to have spent on it.  I honestly wish that I could have stayed at the wedding and saw how the tent looked in the evening as the sun went down.

But, you’re here for the cake.  😀  Haylee and Max asked for a “natural” looking cake that would flow with the outdoor setting and all of the florals and greenery in the decor.

They opted for the top two tiers as almond cake with vanilla bean buttercream and the bottom tier as vanilla cake with raspberry buttercream.  The entire cake was covered in a textured vanilla buttercream.

Again, the cake stand was a slice from a tree there on Max’s parent’s land and I think that it was just perfect.  Haylee set aside some flowers that she had left over from her decor, so I used those to decorate the cake, using her arrangements underneath the tent as guides for style and design.  I love the way that their cake came together and how it fit perfectly into the setting.

It truly was a pleasure to work with Haylee and Max and, as always, I was so honored that they allowed me to be a part of their day.  Congratulations!
